At Conduit, we believe in a world where anyone can frictionlessly send and receive any asset at any time. Our first step in building towards that vision is enabling cross-border transactions that are drastically faster, cheaper and simpler. As we scale the business, we are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join us through this next phase of growth.
Our company is globally distributed, offering the opportunity to collaborate with co-workers across the world. This role requires availability to work and attend meetings during Eastern Time zone (North America) business hours.
About the role:
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be a cornerstone of our backend development team, responsible for building and maintaining the core infrastructure that powers the Conduit Payment Network. This role is ideal for someone with a deep understanding of backend systems, a strong focus on security, and a passion for creating scalable, reliable solutions in a highly regulated environment.
About the work:
In this role, you will be working on our recently launched global payment platform to scale our architecture and enhance its capabilities.
Our company is geographically distributed, and this position offers the opportunity to collaborate with co-workers worldwide. It is a remote position (work from home) that can be based anywhere with shared business hours in the Eastern time zone.

What you'll do in this role:

  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code in NodeJS and TypeScript. You will develop and optimize RESTful APIs, implement business logic, and ensure data integrity across all services.
  • Work on integrating various third-party platforms and services, ensuring seamless data flow and reliability across systems.
  • Design and optimize database schemas in Postgres RDS and MongoDB, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security of data storage solutions.
  • Contribute to the design and evolution of our modular monolith architecture, focusing on scalability, performance, and security.
  • Implement and enforce security protocols, ensuring our systems comply with regulatory standards and protect user data.
  • Work closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.

What we’re looking for:

  • 7+ years experience with backend development, preferably using NodeJS, NestJS, and TypeScript.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs that integrate with third-party platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of database design and management (SQL and noSQL).
  • Experience with AWS, particularly with deploying and managing containerized applications.
  • A solid understanding of security best practices, particularly in a regulated fintech environment. Experience implementing security measures and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems and ensure reliability and performance.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team. Experience working in cross-functional teams is a plus.
  • Ability to mentor and lead junior developers, providing technical guidance and promoting best practices.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with high growth startup environments.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the fintech industry.

What we offer:

  • Competitive compensation
  • Employee Stock Options Program
  • Home office setup stipend
  • Medical, dental, vision and supplementary benefits
  • Remote-first environment with flexible working hours to accommodate work-life balance
  • Growth potential and opportunity to have a significant impact at an early stage of our company's journey
  • Unlimited PTO
