Head of Insurance / Co-founder, New Venture: AI Platform in Disability Claims management

Summary

Diagram Ventures is launching a new tech venture developing a SaaS platform to help Disability Insurance carriers accelerate rehabilitation and increase satisfaction of their clients suffering from health issues preventing them from working. We are looking for a Head of Insurance or Co-founder to help the venture’s leader in scoping the product roadmap and the go-to-market strategy. The engagement with the advisor would be initially part-time and can convert into a full-time role and/or founder position within the new venture. The candidate would work closely with the CEO to produce the deliverables and reach the milestones mentioned below. The candidate could be compensated in cash, equity in the new venture or a mix of both.

The opportunity

Managing Disability Insurance claims is a multifaceted role, demanding empathy, discipline, and critical thinking from claims managers. Current processes require handling vast amounts of information and coordinating between claimants, healthcare providers, and employers for a safe return to work. However, antiquated systems and communications channels such as fax, paper forms, lengthy medical records and legacy systems hamper efficiency. Claims managers must navigate complex decisions with incomplete data, often resulting in delays and errors, escalating costs, and diminishing customer satisfaction. Leveraging AI presents an opportunity to revolutionize the process, offering predictive models and streamlined decision-making for a more efficient and less painful experience for all parties involved.

With the help of a few insurance companies as co-design partners and early clients, Diagram Ventures has launched a new venture with the aim of developing a next generation AI-based claims management software. We are now looking to get to the next stage of development with the help of an industry expert Head of insurance. The role could evolve into a co-founder position of the newly created venture.

The compensation package will be discussed with candidates based on their experience and could be a mix of cash and equity in the venture.

Expectations from the role

In collaboration with the venture’s CEO, the candidate will:

• Define the go-to-market of the new venture. Within the US and Canadian Group Benefits and Workers Compensation insurance players, determine the right customers to target first and second. Strategies to reduce long sales cycles with clients.
• Produce a product roadmap for the MVP and beyond. Within the targeted market segment, define which features would bring the most value and are most differentiated from competitors.
• Participate in work sessions with clients and design partners. Be part of sales and product conversations with industry leaders and potential clients. Ideally the candidate already has industry connections.
• Function as the internal industry expert. Share their expertise in the Group benefits industry, particularly around Disability claims operations, target client’s organizational culture.

Background and experience we look for

You are the ideal candidate if you have:

• Extensive work experience (from operations to senior leadership positions) with group benefits insurance carriers, particularly in disability claims.
• Experience with technology products in the group benefits industry
• Deep understanding of the disability operations and the market dynamics
• Connections with the group benefits and / or worker’s compensation carriers in both US and Canada.
• First-hand experience with vendor procurement and integration projects in the disability or workers compensation insurance space.
